What Does the Democratic Party Really Stand For?

December 20, 2019

What do the corporate Democrats like Pelosi, Clinton and Biden really offer us beyond a toned-down, politer and more refined version of Trump?

Joe Biden denounces Trump’s vulgarity but promises to “change nothing” when he becomes president. Does he have any  real platform beyond being the anti-Trump and exploiting what nostalgia exists for the Obama years? Nancy Pelosi sneers at the Progressives in the party and openly rejects any proposals to fight for  universal health care, free college, a $15 minimum wage,  action to reduce skyrocketing inequality and growing poverty, re-examining our costly  and futile military adventures abroad, or any innovative responses to the looming climate catastrophe.

Okay, overt racism will again become unfathomable. Perhaps appointing a transgender drag queen to the Supreme Court will be a priority. There will be celebrations of females and people of color ascending onto the higher ranks as key defenders and promoters of Wall Street, the giant corporations and the Military-Industrial Complex. Females CEOs now head three of the six major corporate components of our for-profit military-industrial machine. In a more innocent age such people were referred to as “the Merchants of Death.” Is this something to be celebrated  by Democrats and described as progress in “spreading freedom and democracy”?

What values does the Democratic Party really stand or now? What does it mean to be a Democrat beyond loathing Donald Trump?

What are they committed to fighting for?  What positive vision of America do they offer that puts the needs of the American people a priority ahead of ever-expanding corporate welfare?

Profits or People?  Isn’t that what it comes down to?

What are the so-called “moderate” or “mainstream” Democrats willing to fight for even if Trump is no longer president?
