HOW ARE ‘SANCTIONS’ SUPPOSED TO WORK?

June 26, 2019

HOW DO SANCTINS WORK?

What does it mean when the USA imposes “sanctions” on the people of another nation? The intent is to cause suffering among the common people, to cripple access to necessities such as food medicine, blocking trade and freezing assets abroad, to create an economic breakdown and collapse and make it impossible for that nation’s (usually elected) government to govern and force it to capitulate to foreign domination. Its purpose is similar to the bombing of civilian population centers during wartime. Other nations are often warned against actions such as trade or aid that might lessen alleviate the human suffering of the victims. Far from being a form of negotiation sanctions are an Act of War under international law.

Of course this hostile act  invites retaliation one form or another. The hard-liners within the government of the tagged country will gain credibility and be strengthened since the attempts at conciliation and negotiation have, by definition, failed.  Obviously any such Act of War is not an attempt to “negotiate” but the opposite.
